R60 - cpu speed stuck at 1G after reinstall.
Hi everyone!
I bought this R60(9455 2VC) last month. Everything worked fine with the preinstalled OS, cpu(T2300, 1.66G) acted normally -- 1.66G when I set the power scheme to "maximum performance", and 1G when I set it to "maximum battery life". I checked all the informations by "cpu-z".
But weird things happened after I reinstalled my OS manually -- cpu speed seemed to stuck at 1G(99x.xxMHz, to be exact). I installed Windows XP Pro, and all the drivers from lenovo's website, except one for a "PM device"(I figured it out myself). In fact, I couldn't find it on the website. But there is one "power management driver" for almost all models except R60(e), so I used it instead.
I did everything I could: unplug AC, plug in, set bios, reset bios, deattach battery, attach battery, heavy cpu load, different power scheme...nothing worked. Finally, one thing worked! I upgraded my bios to version 1.05, and after restart, it's 1.66G again!! But I reinstalled my system again, and it was 1G again...
I took it to the "after sales service"(I don't know what u guys call it in english), and things showed normal after replacing my harddisk to theirs. They couldn't explain why, and said it was a software related situation, which was not their problem. So I took it home, and found it 1G again.
That's the whole story, and I hope someone can help me out, thanks in advance!
My hardware configuration: T2300e 1.66G, 512M ram, 945GM chipset, 14.1XGA, 60G sata harddisk, model type: R60 9455 2VC.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
Did you try an update with either the Software Installer or System Update 2? Sometimes, there are updates that only show up there and not in the driver matricies for the system. Being pegged at 1GHz is common for Core Duo chispets that haven't activated power management or where the OS simply doesn't support it.

Thanks for the reply, christopher!
I did use Software Installer to update my drivers, but I didn't try System Update 2, and I will try that this afternoon. In your reply, did you mean that no matter what I set in the BIOS(maximum performance), Core Duo will still be running at 1G by default? And it will run at full speed, only when the power management chip is activated by software?
I copied a PM device driver from another R60 this morning(from somewhere far), and my cpu got back to 1.66G when the battery is attached, but still stuck at 1G when battery removed. Now at least I have some progress about this cpu thing!

Hi I got the very same scenario here. It seems that the CPU only runs at 990++ Mhz once the battery has been removed.bill_duoduo wrote: ....

I suspect it's a bug for all R60s. I wonder if T60 user encounters this too. We have a brief discussion on this in our Malaysian forum but can't seem to find out the reason for this.
