Problem: Z61m freeze when running 3D with usb device pluged

#1 Post by LukeC » Wed Oct 18, 2006 2:27 pm

Hi all, I have a problem about the usb device from my Z61m when the display card is running 3D.

As you all know, when you plug in your usb device (such as mouse), the winXP will give you a default sound, and give you another default sound when your usb device leave.

--

My case is that, when I playing games or watching movies with my usb mouse attached, the OS will give me the default usb leave follow by the usb join sound randomly.

Sometimes, it will freeze the whole system after hearing several usb leave join sound.

However, if no usb device is connected, everything is fine, no usb sound and freeze.

--

It seems like the power for usb is not enough, but I have already using the AC power, so it is very strange.

Also, I have tested different usb mouse (all are functioning under desktop), and even usb keyboard, any usb I/O device will cause the sound and freeze problem when display card is running 3D.

I can trigger the problem by going to ATI catalyst control panel and preview the 3D with usb mouse attached. It will freeze after a few usb leave join sound.

Does any Z61m user has this kind of problem?

And, thanks for your time for reading my first post here.

Luke

I found the problem source is overheat.

Today I bought a cool pad, and place it under my Z61m, and no longer have the usb sound and freeze now.

So, I guess the problem should related to overheat.

btw, do any one have idea about where to view the system temperature?

I can't see this information in the bios.

Thanks
Luke

This little tool shows the temperature:

Another called Speedfan does too I believe, and that is smaller but with less tweaks available:
