R40 CD rom drive disapears ?

#1 Post by mark35 » Fri Oct 20, 2006 1:37 am

Hi all
All of a sudden my CD rom drive has disapeared, the laptop will not detect it. I have tried swapping the drive with another drive as we have a few R40's at my company. This is not the 1st time this has happened, it happened to a different R40
Any ideas ?

I had an R40 with the same issue. It wouldn't see my combo CDRW/DVD, but would see a CDRW or a CD or a DVD.

I took it to mean an eventual system board failure. I eventually sold it, but the other drives were recognized without a problem for months.

Try a different type drive, I do not know of a fix.

P.S. I did try blowing and cleaning all the drive and ultrabay contacts, no difference at all.

CD DISAPPEARS?

Did you recently install any burning software. I know that CLick n burn will change the upper and lower filters in the registry and you can delete them and they will automatically retore to default on reboot. if you did install new burning software I will send you the instructions for removing the upper filters in the reg/ I think it reads as error 32 in the device manager.
