[Help] Need to rebuild Z60m without using recovery media.

#1 Post by Habskilla » Fri Oct 20, 2006 11:04 am

Has anyone managed to do this?

I’ve tried installing a fresh copy of Windows XP to a totally formatted HD without much success. XP installs, but it has many unknown devices including not detecting the networking components thus not enabling me to connect to the internet and doing a automatic software update.

What’s I’ve also tried is install the latest Rescue and Recovery software (v3.01.0042 and Client Security Solution v6.01.0042) to the fresh install of XP. This allows me to create recovery media. When I reboot using the CD it will eventually fail during the restore process. I go through all the steps including doing the copying phase but then I get the error “There was an error during initialization.”

So I got myself a very expensive toy to game solitaire :)

Get the recovery CD's from Lenovo and use those. That will work.

I'd love to, but the laptop is out of service and they won't ship the CD. I can't even buy the recovery CD from them.

You can download the network drivers manually on another computer. Then use a USB key or something to transfer to the Z60m. Once you have network you should just be able to use the System Update utility.

A "Z" is a new machine - Wow! If the earlier suggestion doesn't help and if you can't get a set on eBay, call IBM, close your mind for a minute, tell them the hard drive broke and you need the CD's to recover your new hard drive. Good luck. ... JD Hurst
