Shorted out sytemboard on A31?

Hi all, I am a recent purchaser of two A31 models and am very pleased. However, recently my spouse crushed in his usb port, and at the sametime crashed the system. I was able to restart the system but the screen is black. I interchanged the screen and found that the LCD is functioning correctly, is it possibe that it is a systemboard problem, can anyone suggest another potential problem beside the mother board? I am going to buy a new systemboard at $250.00 but want to get it prepared for the "next time." Can someone suggest a reputable business who can repair a systemboard. Thanks for your time
