z60t won't stay turned off

#1 Post by zhenya » Thu Oct 26, 2006 8:31 am

I hibernate my laptop for transportation daily, and I very often go to take it out of the bag to find that it has turned itself back on inside the bag. I've had the motherboard replaced as the likely culprit under my warranty, and while it seems a little better, it is still happening. It's worrying because it is often so hot I can barely touch it after this happens, and irritating because it means my battery is often nearly drained when I go to use it.

Anyone else having a problem like this? I'm not sure what to ask Lenovo to do next.

Is the screen coming open? I know that windows can be made to power up automatically on some laptops when you open the lid.

If its not that, then it really sounds like a hardware fault and I would contact Lenovo for repair.

Some software, like the defragmenter and the windows scheduler, have the ability to wake the computer out of suspend or hibernate as well. So it is possible that you might have a process that can resume the Z60 from hibernate. Have you checked? :)

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

No, the screen isn't coming open, and I don't believe that it is a scheduled process waking the machine up for a couple of reasons. One, it happens too frequenty at too many random times. At most, I have it set to defrag once per week, but it does not wake up for that scheduled task (and it wouldn't be very successful if it did, as it would be stuck at the bios fingerprint screen.) Also, it often happens while I'm handling the machine to put it in my bag. It REALLY seems like the power switch is just extremely sensitive, as the simple act of picking up the machine is often enough to trigger it. The problem is, it doesn't happen ALL of the time. Lenovo was happy enough to replace the motherboard, but the tech was really at a loss as to what else could be causing it.

Thanks for the suggestions!
