Problems with DVD-RAM drive

#1 Post by thePCxp » Wed Nov 29, 2006 3:03 am

I am having problems with my DVD-RAM drive in my R51. It sometimes dosen't read whatever disks I put in (whether they are burned or not) and It somethimes can't burn disks (and right now it can't do neither of those things). I have tried everything that I could think of including installing the latest drivers but it still keeps giving me problems.

Does it make any strange sounds when reading other types of discs? If you could run a PC-Doctor check on it too, that would be great. :)

Does it do it for just DVDs or all optical media?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

It does it for all optical media and it dosen't make any strange sounds but sometimes (or most of the time) during startup, it makes some clicking noises (like if its trying to read a disk when there isn't a disk in the drive) and it makes them after the IBM ThinkPad logo and before Windows starts up. And I couldn't run a PC-Doctor test.

Did you touch the lens? Your R51 ultrabay is almost similar to my R52. Try to swap someone's ultrabay and used that and check to see whether it is the ultrabay problem. I believed that it might be the lens. :-(

Report back after swapping your ultrabay with someone and if problem persist.

I didn't touch the lens and I don't have someone else to swap the ultrabay with (or maybe I do :? ).
