Keyboard problem ( R50e )

#1 Post by sco1984 » Sun Dec 03, 2006 12:02 am

Hello,
I have R50e-1834-EQ1 laptop. I found there is a "crispy" sound sometimes i feel when i press "backspace". I feel like that specific key is going inside the keyboard i mean going down and down. And some
crispy sound i also hear. :( It happen sometimes. I really doubt if theat keys base is damaged. Shall i contact IBM Service center? They
replaced my keyboard 8 months back. My lappie is still under warranty. Anybody had similar problem? I dont bang keyboard  So there is no chance to get keys damaged. Strange.

regards,
Amey Abhyankar.

Try to use a flat head screw driver and pop out the space key and check what is wrong with the metal underneath the key (a metal hook). Pay attention to the little \"legs\". Do not break those legs or else you need to change the whole keyboard because there is no way you can pop that key back in.

How about other keys? Is it keyboard flex you are talking about?

Other keys work fine absolutely. Just that "Backspace" key makes some uncomfrtable move when i press. I dont feel comfort when i press that specific key. I dont no if my keyboard is flex. I just know it's "US" style keyboard which has small "Enter" key..My previous keyboard was "UK" style with big "Enter" key. Yes i can explain lil about my current keyboard. Each key has some metalic "U" type locks underneath. I affraid if i break keyboard. I think i'll have to remove screws below the machine to remove whole keyboard? Will warranty avoid if i do so ? I think the base of that "Enter" key is not locked proerly thats why it goes down....I am gonna call IBM today ...... :) Thanx for suggesion.

Removing the screws to remove the keyboard does not void warranty in singapore but as for india, i think you better check with IBM/Lenovo.

Yep, if you have warranty for your thinkpad, complain and rant to them about the keyboard and get them to replace it for you.

Read your PM.
