Access Connections using 50% CPU

I've got a pretty new Z61M and have started getting slow repsonse because Access Connectrions is using up to 50% of my cpu cycles every few seconds; version 4.21.

I'm using a wired LAN through a WLAN router. I've turned off the wireless for the time being.

Anyone else have this issue?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Look in Task Manager to see if Access Connections is your problem. I have used every version of Access Connections from 2.7 to the (now) current 4.21. None of them have used any significant CPU. My T41 is wireless right now, and CPU is at zero. See if Rundll is causing your problem, and if so, it may be the Battery tool (which I do not use). ... JD Hurst

TaskManager lists AcSvc.exe as using up to 50% every 30 to 60 seconds.

That's what I was basing my original question on.

My AcSvc.exe is running at zero. Access Connections allows you to set up numerous profiles. By default, it sets each profile as active and will look for all of them. I disable all but my standard default wired profile (which I use at most clients) and my home wireless profile (which I use at home). The other profiles are inactive. This is the Location Switching tab I am referring to, not the Master List. I also set (checked) "Disable this wireless radio when switching to another profile" in All profiles.

If Access Connections is really acting up, uninstall it (and the profiles), restart, and re-install it.

What antivirus are you running? My ACSVC.EXE runs 50% continuous IF CA antivirus has Real Time scanning enabled.

I have contacted CA multiple times with no resolution.....turning off the Real Time protection 'solves' the problem.

I use Symantec Client Security 3.1 Corporate. Excellent Software. I wish Symantec would use it for their retail product. ... JD Hurst

Symantec came on my laptop and worked. When I switched to CA, the problem he describes occurred.

That, I totally second. The corporate client is better than the rubbish they stick on the streets. Much thiner client.

Recently i had the same problem. Access Connections used 50-99% of the CPU time.
A complete deinstallation (including profiles) and reinstall solved the problem. Now it is back to 0%.
I guess my profiles got corrupted.

I uninstalled and installed and it's working fine now.

Maybe a corrupt profile?

I'm running AVG and have had no apparent problems for a couple of years.

I think this is a very common and frequently unreported problem. I had exactly the same problem except it was on my (soon to be sold) T42, and the CPU utilization was 100%. I could not eliminate the problem but perhaps I didn't try hard enough, although I uninstalled and reinstalled AC several times, to no avail.

In the end I came to realize that AC served no useful function for me and uninstalled it, for good. I haven't missed it, Windows' native wireless access works fine, and the problem is gone.

I noticed this problem today, I was getting constant spiking, once about every second to 15% CPU, this was with the latest AC at the time 4.52 (on vista32, on an X series admittedly)

I signed up here after googling for 'AcSvc.exe CPU', I wanted to post I found that :

in the Notifications tab

Disable 'show wireless status icon in task tray'

This brings my CPU usage down to zero%, even with all other functions of Access Connections still enabled.

It's a little annoying to not have the wifi info on tap, but it isn't really necessary, and the CPU spikes were not worth it.

Same problem here. I just disabled Norten AV real time and it seems to work.... However now there is limited virus protection....

I have a T61 running Vista Ultimate and Access Connections (AcSvc.exe) all of sudden was killing my system. I have had my system for about 3 months and up until a couple of weeks ago I did not have this problem. The HD Light was pegged. Note, I am NOT running any Anti Virus software. I uninstalled the software and my problem went away.

I agree, I don't see any extra value in having Access Connections on top of Vista's Wireless management application.

I had a similar problem recently after enabling the "show wireless status icon in task tray" option. The problem stopped after disabling it again.

I had the same problem. I saw elsewhere that toggling event logging on and then back off would solve the problem. It didn't. I also saw that someone was able to uninstall and then reinstall and that took care of the problem. I wanted to save that for a last resort. I also read somewhere that the wireless radio could do it. My wireless is off, but my Bluetooth light was on. So I pressed Fn-F5 which brings up the radio dialog box and I pressed the "All Off" button. The Bluetooth light went out and the CPU usage for AcSvc.exe went to 0. Problem solved.

For some reason, my computer boots with the Bluetooth light on. My guess is that AccessConnections is doing it somehow and that uninstalling and reinstalling resets this behavior which makes people think that uninstalling/reinstalling is the only solution. Try turning off Bluetooth first.

I have created some problems for Access Connections by using a Nokia USB Internet stick. It is not one of the supported cellular devices. I solved the problem by uninstalling Access Connections and all the profiles. I reinstalled and allowed only wired and standard wireless connection types. My Nokia stick thinks it is a LAN and still works, but no more errors in AC.

Same here. I have seen Access Connections (that specific process mentioned above) cause the cpu to spike to 50% and hang there when I've pulled out my Sprint Novatel usb modem from the usb port without clicking the "safely remove device" icon in the tray. When that happens it stays on 50% until I reboot or use task manager to kill the process. But if I use task manager, I usually want to reboot anyway at that point because AC functionality (the icons and their right click controls) will be impaired from killing the process in task manager. The problem doesn't happen if I use the safely remove device procedure. So, maybe it has something to do with one of your wireless or connection cards.
