thinkPad z60m - problem with battery

#1 Post by lukaszd » Tue Dec 05, 2006 2:29 pm

hello,

I have my z60m since February and till yesterday everything was OK.
But yesterday I just unplugged my thinkpad, moved it to another place after 3h train journey and plugged it on. I did this many times. But this time when I turned it on (with AC) the battery diode started to blink orange - like the battery is getting discharged. But in XP, in the task bar when usually there is a green progress line which informes about the battery level, there is now a red cross and the tip "error detected". It seems that the baterry is rather OK because my laptop works without AC adapter. The battery seems just not to be recognized by the thinkpad... I was working on the battery and suddenly my laptop turned off - the battery just got discharged, but laptop "didn't know" that. I plugged the AC adapter again and now the battery is probably charged again.. It isn't the "windows" problem because the battery diode starts to blink just after turning on.. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened?

thanks,
best regards
lukasz d.

The best thing you can do is re-seat the battery. Take it out, and carefully/properly re-insert it. Make sure it is properly inserted. If the external LED is flashing orange all the time and/or the Windows software is telling you there is an error - there is one!

You should still be under warranty, call and tell them your problem. They will probably just replace your battery, but may have another solution. Let us know what you find out!
Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...
