Photoshop CS2 on Z61t?

#1 Post by Quest » Wed Dec 06, 2006 12:31 pm

This question is directed to all those who use Photoshop CS2 on your Z61t. I do a lot of editing, working with RAW files, and batch processing.

How does the notebook fare handling these tasks?

Do you find that the integrated graphics chipset limits your speed/productivity?

Are you generally happy with its performance?

Have you worked with a notebook with dedicated graphics and found a noticeable difference?

I will be using this computer on a semi-professional basis, processing bulk files (including RAW) for clients from time to time.

Thanks a bunch!

I do a lot of Photoshop work -- editing (though usually not RAW) and batch processing -- on my X31, which has, err, less than powerful integrated video chipset. But with static images, like those on Photoshop, it is perfectly sufficient.

But, really, Photoshop generally does not stress the video; mostly the processing is done by the CPU, and only then does it display the final result.

What I believe you need for serious Photoshop work is (1) lots of memory, (2) a fast disk, and (3) a fast CPU. In that order, IMHO. And a high-quality display, whether the built-in one or an external panel, is certainly important as well.

But I really wouldn't worry about the video performance for Photoshop.
