Z61t 4-cell Battery

#1 Post by Quest » Wed Dec 06, 2006 6:48 pm

Can anyone comment on battery life using the 4-cell battery? How long does it generally last when running light apps? Heavy apps? Movies? I really don't want a battery that extends from the back of the machine.

Thanks.

I have a 1.83Ghz Yonah, 1G RAM, 100G 7200rpm, 4-cell bat z61t.
With max battery settings, lowest screen brightness, max power saving for the wi-fi card( trust me, wi-fi makes a huge difference), I get 2:30 - 3:00.
With wireless off, it's 3:00 or more.
Hope that helps.

PS: I also hated that 7-cell bat. I might get the advanced ultrabay battery to boost the operation time on battery. :P

hsjC - Is there a reason by you "hated that 7-cell bat"? Does it not provide enough of an improvement in the runtime that's it's not worth it? Does it stick out too much? I ordered a Z61t w/ only the 7cell. If it is total crap, I better tell them to switch ASAP. Thanks

There are a couple versions of reasonable explanations for hsJc by my friends:
Help Save Justin Catala
High School Jesus Christ
.... etc

As for the bat, I dont own one so I can't tell exactly how much it extends. But I did see ppl having that 7=cell battery on their z61t's. I think it sticks out roughly 1/2 inch.
Kinda like how 8-cell bat sticks out on an X60.

I think it should give you another 2 hours of operation compared to the 4cell. So might as well just keep it.

I use my 7-cell when I know I'll be awy from power for an extended period of time, and my 4-cell for normal usage.

I wish I'd bought the ultrabay battery as well, just to get even more time out of it.

On windows I get about 5-6 hrs from the 7-cell and around 3 from the 4-cell. I was able to get similar numbers in Kubuntu, after a bit of tweaking.

Right now I've switched to Gentoo, and since it's not properly set up, I'm not getting more than 3-4 hours off my 7-cell.

To be honest I don't really notice the difference in weight between the 4- and 7-cell, but the 4-cell definately looks better :)
