A31p: BIOS 1GET, 1NET
A31p: BIOS 1GET, 1NET
Hi,
I'm wondering what's the difference between these two BIOS versions and what happens when I use the wrong one?
Background:
I have a A31p-R9G (BIOS 1GETxx necessary) and a friend has the A31p-N5G (BIOS 1NETxx necessary).
Maybe someone has an answer because there are no infos to find in the internet.

Bah, those links are dead now...for some reason.
Francesco, type in your model number in the "Support & Downloads" section of the Lenovo.com website. That should net you all the updates relevent to the machine with that given model number. So you should get the correct one for both you and your friend.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I've been getting this "the page has moved" message on the IBM/Lenovo site a lot lately! I just fixed those links and hopefully they will stay correct for a while.christopher_wolf wrote:Bah, those links are dead now...for some reason.

Not sure, but my guess would be that the 'NET' bios is required for units with the extra security chip installed. (HMM page 113).
That is the only major hardware difference I can think of that could require a different bios version.

The NET and the GET bioses do differ. The distinctions are in some way related to model type and what country it originates from.
For example, I bought my own ThinkPad in China and because of that (and the model type because it was bought there) I have to use the NET version of the BIOS updates.
Way to solve this is to go to the IBM website and download the text files (readme) for both. Study them and look for your exact model number.
Hope this helps.

Re: A31p: BIOS 1GET, 1NET
I dont know either what is difference between 1GET* and 1NET* BIOS versions. However, what I know, that playing with wrong BIOS version may screw up your system board beyond repair, so dont ever mess with (wrong) BIOS.francesco wrote: I'm wondering what's the difference between these two BIOS versions and what happens when I use the wrong one?
My A31p runs 1GET41WW (v 1.13).
