Cannot play VCD on thinkpad

What should i install or what have i missed out? I cannot burn VCD movies onto my thinkpad HDD and when i try to watch the movie directly from the VCDs, the sound and graphic is not smooth and it goes in pause and play mode and it behaved like my thinkpad cannot play VCDs at all.

My thinkpad R52 has a CD-RW/DVD rom ultrabay and is this the reason why it cannot play and burn VCDs? I am so frustrated by the VCD codecs thingy and i have installed the codecs for VCD into my thinkpad but i cannot read the VCD files at all. It turned out like this when i clicked "my computer".

What software are you using to try to read / write these VCD's?

Might want to try Roxio or Nero.

Do i need to download digital video software? Because it seemed that using VLC player can play the VCD but the playback is not smooth at all.

You should be able to watch them with Windows Media Player.

I would try Media Player Classic (do a google search).

Can you play smooth video using vlc when virtually mounting a vcd-image?

Don't exactly know, but isn't there "video acceleration" somewhere (ot be turned on/off)?

i have tried to watch the VCDs using windows media player 11 but it won't start at all. There is no problem with my ultrabay enhanced player in my thinkpad. I can play DVDs, Cd-roms, CD-RW. I have tried the VCD on my other thinkpads and it doesn't work as well. VCD is okay because i can watch it on my desktop computer and my Acer travelmate.

I dont understand why yet, but when no other player including the current windows media player, Power DVD, Divx Player will play a video, I can pull up windows media player classic, and it works for some reason. It looks horrible, with its square buttons and win95 styling, but it plays the videos.

Another option- instead of playing the video as a VCD, try opening the Video TS folder and play the file called AVSEQ1.dat

I have tried Realplayer and it works now. I need to click on CD/DVD and choose the chapter and play it individually. There is smooth playback now.

Now i want to burn the VCD into my harddisk.

Oh well, i got everything to work now. Guess how happy i am now.

I will post everything on how i get that simple thing to work.

How to read & write VCD on thinkpad:

Open \"my computer\". Click on D: drive (must insert VCD inside!). Open file \"MPEGAV\" and you should be able to see the video files marked \"AVSEQ01\". NOTE: you do not need to use nero or roxio software. Just burn using your normal windows wizard will do.
Right click on the file \"MPEGAV\" and select properties and change it to windows media player / real player. Then click play and enjoy your VCD.

Yes that is normally used method by those frequently work on computer. Right click on the respective video/audio file and say "Open with" , from the list select your favrouite player and there you go . By default sometimes those "MPEVAG" files displays in some weird format etc etc. So best way is to 1st find what extension it has. If you dont no how to find associated extention,
Just move your cursor over that file and it says it"avi" file or "mpeg" file or "xvid" file. Most times avi n mpeg files can be played on WMP . Or use "Nero Show Time" ,Which comes with Nero Ultra edition version 7.x onwards.

This really isnt the way to play a VCD. That is how to play a media file inside your VCD.

If you want to play the disk as a VCD, I suggest getting PowerDVD software. Then when you put the VCD in your drive, I believe PowerDVD will detect it as a VCD and play it.

Yes .cue or .bin image files can only be opened in DAEMON tools or in "ISO Ultra" image burning software. I had the same burning at the beginning. I had no idea about .cue extension..Hehe
..later on 1 of friend said install DAEMON tools and enable virtual cd rom and mount that .cue image in it and enjoy. And yes it worked.
Computer field is too vast. Even today i am Cisco and Microsoft
certified it doesnt mean i know this all..Haha !

You do NOT need to shout. I am not having any problems with my thinkpad now. I can play VCD on my thinkpad exactly the same way as my VCD player.
