a30 battery does not recharge

#1 Post by michael » Tue May 18, 2004 10:24 am

I had a battery go bad in a Thinkpad A30, so I purchased a new IBM battery. It worked fine, but would not recharge when plugged in or docked.

I tried someone else's AC adapter and battery, but no matter what battery is installed is does not recharge.

Also the system clock is notoriously slow.

I'm guessing the mother/system board is dead, so I've already priced out a new one. I'm wondering though if something else could be the problem.

I really don't want to spend the $270 to replace it and find out it still doesn't work!

A friend of mine who works at an IT HelpDesk thought that getting a new System Board would do the trick, so unless anyone else has any ideas I'm going to try that.

Have you run the diagnostics that came with the PC (or downloaded from IBM's website)? Be thankful that your system at least works well enough to be able to do that.

Thanks for the reply...

I let PC-Doctor for Windows run, and it didn't find anything wrong. The battery health & status is fine. The Battery Inofrmation screen just shows 0 Current when its "Charging." (It does show the correct Current when Discharging)

Battery seems to be room temp. as well.
