MOBILITY ATI-RADEON FIRE GL T2-128

#1 Post by christoforos86 » Mon Dec 25, 2006 2:38 pm

Hello guys,
i'm new in the forum and i would like to ask for your advice on the following:
I have recently bought a Thinkpad R50p with an ATI Fire GL T2-128 VGA card. However with the drivers given by IBM (i have tried using system update and manually to download and install them)4.0.100.1124 the system is too slow(even though i have 1.5 gb of memory).
I am using it for CAD programs(Pro engineer and other). It is supposed to do very well on the 3d mark as well, however it doesn't give a score over 500(1280x1024 resolution for the specific test).
ATI (AMD) doesn't offer at ALL any drivers for mobility Fire GL VGA's.
Is anyone of you using the specific notebook or any other with this Graphics unit?Which drivers are you using?Any suggestions generally on how to improve my Thinkpad's performance?
Thank you in advance for your advice.

look around thinkpads.com for this: http://www.thinkpads.com/external-video.htm#1600

and this: ATI catalyst driver

This was a more generic video driver for that R50p..
which was really a T41p with the larger 1200x1600 display..

you might get a lead for more speed..

The ati reference drivers will not install. Some ex-ati employee modifies these reference drivers and those do work. Take a look at the omega drivers.

I don't want to throw you bad "vibes", but watch the GPU temp.
I've recently burnt a R50p GPU, the GPU just "unsoldered" from the systemboard, it's a common defect that appears.

I'm still suffering the mourning

I just disassembled my computer and the cooling paste on my gpu was black, burned and glued on the chip.. No wonder the computer spontaneously shuts down on hot days while doing graphics intensive things.
