Carrying a z61(p)...

#1 Post by vjm » Mon Dec 25, 2006 7:39 pm

Good evening people and nice to meet you all. I'll (hopefully) be the owner of a new z61p next week and as a new parent I have a question to ask.

The first thing I've been looking for is a good carrying case. Since I don't feel like walking around with several bags, I've been looking for something that can hold a bit more than just the laptop. Not a huge amount of extra stuff, but just some papers and that sort of things.

One that looks quite ok, is the TP Organizer from Lenovo (well, Targus actually) but that is not listed as an accessory for z61p. I find this a bit odd since the machine itself has dimensions 3.7 x 35.7 x 26.2 cm while the case is 6.5 x 36.5 x 31 cm. Has anyone actually tried this particular case and found it (not)fitting? Or is it that with the 9-cell battery the case is too small and thus it's not listed...

Of course, if someone has found the perfect case for this machine, I wouldn't mind hearing about it. ;-)

Consider either a slim bag (that organizer looks alright) or a backpack. I have a 15" T42 (which is lighter than the 15.4" Z61p), and the only way I can carry it in a briefcase-type bag and not suffer is when I used an ultra-slim bag that can hold the laptop, the AC and some accessories. The more roomy bags (like the standard things that usually come with the laptop weigh like 60% if not more of the laptop itself - totally unacceptable to me.

yea I would agree... I am not a huge fan of 15"+ LCD notebooks, but it is tollerable since i have a thin bag with just the AC adapter, headphones, and a USB cable...

I was wondering about the weight and size of the laptop as well. But in the end, I was lured by the nice screen of the z61p. Since I mostly need to carry it between home and work, I thought that a 15" thingie is still manageable. I'll see how it goes when I eventually get it...

I have an IBM notebook rucksack with works a treat with my 15.4" z60m, 9 cell. It is actually made by Targus as a friend has that version, but is very well padded to protect the notebook and is comfortable to carry.

I think it is this one:

But I got it from IBM a year or so back. I should say the laptop is a little high to be a perfect fit, but it works for me.
