A21m hangs at post

#1 Post by TitleSeventeen » Mon Jan 01, 2007 3:36 pm

I was reading around here, and everything that I've been seeing here is pointing to a bad systemboard. it will post, and will generally let me press F1 or F12, but that is the extent of its operation.

I've tried starting it with no CMOS battery, on its main battery, with/without the a/c adapter. It makes no difference.

I'm having the same problem with my A22e

I found a new MB for $99 but after replacing it this afternoon the board is showing the same symptoms.
same error message: one long two short beeps.

I get the initial setup screen then get a list of what is in the computer.
neither F1 or F12 does anything.

I thought it might be the memory. but the start up screen says 255MB extended memory passed.

have you tried a new CMOS battery?

I found one at ???Miller, I found by googling A22e CMOS battery. it was around $11 with shipping.

I just changed the battery after going to the trouble of swapping out the MB and getting the same set of beeps and the same problems. I sent the new board back to the vendor and put the old MB back in.

the other thing I did, that probably makes no sense, was I went into the bios setup, something I could not do before changing the battery, and changed the setting so the machine goes through diagnostics every time it boots.

after I did that the machine booted. :D
