I though of starting a new thread to summarize the issues and hopefully resolution of the Z6xx power down/restart/stand by/hibernate issue
I have a brand new Z61t and, as few other people I have this dreaded issue:
- Reinstall Win XP
- Update all drivers from Lenovo support website
- Then the computer stop to a black screen (or blue or whatever background color) after the shut down sequence and never actually power off or restart
My personal experience with this issue is that after installing Win XP pro and all the drivers the system is still shutting down and somewhere down the line installing the applications I need on the computer it stop restarting, I couldn’t pin point the one application that might have cause it.
I do also own a Z60t that have the same set of applications that do NOT have the issue.
I’m at a complete loss here, short of reinstalling windows (again…) to find myself in the same situation I have no idea what to do next.
Is someone that had this issue managed to fix it ?
Did someone order the Recovery CD from Lenovo support, and is it helping ?
Did anyone that have manually reinstalled XP on Core 2 based Z6xx manage to get the power down to work properly ?
Did anyone contact Lenovo about this issue, and what was their advice ?
Thanks a bunch for your help
PS: here is a bunch of other posts on this forum from users with the same issue and short of buying a Mac no one seems to have fixed the issue.

I also found this T43 user that seems to have a similar problem and even his $200 bid didn't give him an anwser.

Z6xx power down/restart/stand by/hibernate issue
I would recommend booting into Rescue and Recovery then chose the option to Restore Factory Contents. You press the ThinkVantage button at the beginning of the boot sequence to boot into Rescue and Recovery. If this will not work because of your having reinstalled XP, you can try the following to repair the Master Boot Record. If you have deleted the service partition then I hope you burned a set of Product Recovery Discs before you reinstalled XP...
Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette
Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette

This solved the issue for me ! Thanks Jezek !Hi, try this, disallow power management on USB Root Hub or others USB devices: Device Manager -> USB Root Hub -> Power Management Tab -> uncheck "Alow the computer to turn off this devices to save power".
