Yikes! What is this A21p?

#1 Post by silo » Wed May 19, 2004 3:12 am

I bought an A21p off eBay and it's pretty nice. On the underside, however, is a strange thing. First the S/N ID paper (with the model number, S/N, barcode) is covered with a 2nd piece of paper.

The one underneath says it's a 2629 HXU with S/N 78FA080
The one on top says it's a 2629 RRA with a S/N 78TH000 (i think; hard to read through some kind of transparent paper).

Also has a "This product is refurbished and contains used parts" sticker. ANd two windows stickers, one on top of the other (I did not remove the top one (WIN98se) to look at the bottom).

In general I like the machine so the question is just out of curiosity more than anything else.

THanks--

Seems the unit was refurbished by IBM at some point. It makes little difference at this point because of the age of the system it would probably be out of warranty by now.

What you have is the top-of-the line TP from late 2000/early 2001 with 850MHz P3 and the first generation 15" 1600x1200 LCD.

It's still quite useable for all but heavy graphics/CPU intensive work. Mine has 512MB (the max) of RAM and runs WinXP.

A21p

I think the A21p is one of the finest Thinkpads of all time. I'm still upset that IBM cancelled the A series with no real replacement.
Apathy is on the rise. But nobody seems to care.
