A31 will not run on ac powere but works fine with battery
Just that! NO ac power tried different adapters. no luck. but as long as the battery holds a charge it boots and works fine. in all honesty my friend plugged in the wrong ac adapter . He used the one for the DSL modem cause if fit. Duh! well he said it got real hot (ac adapter)_ and smelled of electrical frying. think it needs a new mo bo or can you exchange the plug?? I have one I disassembled step daughter spilled water into hers and fried it. (both A31s and both in the same week) and it looks like I need a whole new mobo, any suggestions? Thanks

It's possible that if your system is working normally off of the battery but not the AC adpater, you (or your friend) has blown a fuse protecting the DC input. I would assume that IBM has used a similar design in the A31 as I have seen in the T2x systems. The only problem is identifying the fuse and finding a replacement. Well, that and being able to unsolder and solder the tiny thing.
For a T23 I did a couple of months ago, I found that mouser.com stocked a replacement fuse. Popped the new one on the board but now after a couple of minutes being powered up, there's a slight burning smell so whatever caused the fuse to blow is still on the board. That's the problem with blown fuses. You may also have to figure out what is causing it to blow.
