Hitachi Warranties

#1 Post by gibblr » Thu Jan 11, 2007 7:15 pm

Good day
Does anyone know if Hitachi provides any warranty for their HDD’s installed in a ThinkPad?
IBM has their FRU’s and Part Numbers all over this drive but I heard that Hitachi has a 3 year warranty on their drives and mine is real close to death.
There is a date of manufacture of 03FEB2003, so I am cutting it kind of close to try to get warranty if it is possible.
Any knowledge will be appreciated

I doubt it, but you should still go to Hitachi's site and look up your HDD's serial number.

If you look at this pic of my HDD you will see my problem
IBM has plastered their labels all over it and I tried all the numbers on this thing and all Hitachi said was wrong date format.
There was one more 12-14-digit number on the bottom of the HDD but I got the same message for that number as well
that led me to believe that the fact that this is a OEM HDD Hitachi will not cover it, I was just hoping that someone here knew of a way to get warranty.
I have seen Fujitsu cover an Acer OEM drive in the past
I have an email in to Hitachi right now, waiting on an answer
Thanks for depressing me!

Wait a minute, Feb 2003? Even if it had Hitachi warranty, it would have expired in Feb 2006! I should have read your original post more carefully.

Each time I've searched an OEM drive at Hitachi I've always been directed to see the manufacturer of my laptop (who supplied the drive) for service. Besides, as the pianowizard stated there is likely no warranty after 3 years anyway.

Lenovo T60 (IPS) - Fujitsu ST5020D - Fujitsu Q2010 - Docks and accessories for each (and a roomfull of stuff I can't use.)
