Least expensive way to buy a Z series thinkpad

#1 Post by rambot » Sun Jan 14, 2007 1:40 pm

I've perused the FAQ and searched the forums but came up with no conclusive answer. What is the best way to purchase a thinkpad that I would like to configure myself. I am considering the following options:

1. Purchasing off the lenovo web site.
2. Calling a lenovo agent
3. Going to the employee referral web site. I have a friend who works at IBM. Unfortunately the machines here dont seem to be configurable.

Is there a 4th option: Calling lenovo agent and mentioning the employee number? Will this save me money compared to the other modes?

Also lenovo's web site isnt clear on the return policy? Are all machines returnable? Or are custom configurations not returnable?
How about machines purchased through the employee plan?

Would highly appreciate a response to this query!

Cheers!

Perhaps a 4th option is to order through http://usa.visa.com/personal/. Look for "Lenovo" in the drop-down menu. You get up to 20% off the standard web prices.

My understanding is that Thinkpads are returnable only if the package hasn't been opened, and if they are returned within 21 days. If you open the box, you'd need to pay a 15% restocking fee.
