R51 - No wireless

#1 Post by rviz » Mon Jan 15, 2007 5:55 pm

Hi All,

I have a R51 and here's my problem: I can't connect to my wireless. When I open View Available Wireless Networks, I get this message: "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you want to use windows to configure this wireless connection, click "Change advancec settings, " click the wireless network tab, and then select the check box labeled "Use Window to configure my wireless network settings."

I follow the instructions and then in the same window (Wireless Networks), I get this message "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on."

I clicked fn F5 to turn the switch on and a black window come up and it says that I'm not connected. I'm positive that the connection itself is not the problem, it's probably in the settings of the laptop.

Can someone help me fix this? If you need more info, please let me know.

Thank you for your time,

Richard

If you have Access Connections installed and don't use it, you should remove it and try again by using the Windows utility.

I removed it, and now I'm able to connect. But I can't get online, even if i'm connected. What could be the problem other than the connection? I mean the Signal Strength is excellent, but when I open IE, I can't access any websites, even after restarting the computer.

Your thinkpad is connected to your router if you can see the signal strength. :-)

The problem might be with a proxy server or your computer internet setting might be wrong.

How did you managed to post in this forum if you have that above mentioned problem? Connect via cable??? :?

Yes I have cable. I posted using my desktop.

Anyway, I call Linksys and they helped me fix the problem. Thank you India!

And thank you all for your time.

One thing that could help solve this is manually reseting your computer's IP address. I have had a few computer that do this sort of thing. Goto Start > Run. Type "cmd" (without the quotations of course  ) and press enter. Type the following: "ipconfig /release" enter, "ipconfig /renew" enter. This manually resets the ip address. To make sure all you IP settings are correct type "ipconfig /all". If this matches what your router is set to, then there is something wrong with the router. Just because you can connect doesn't mean everything is squared away. I have dealt with many wireless issues before, so if doesn't work, I may have a few more tricks up my sleeve.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I had similar kind of problem. If tried to switch my wlan radio on(via Fn+F5) nothing happened.

I installed Intel PRO/wireless LAN 2200bg v10.5.1.0 API and after it has been working ok.

You could try the same, and download the correct version:
