a hard choice?

#1 Post by MrPats » Sat Jan 20, 2007 8:17 pm

Ok,

Work has ordered some new laptops and I am in the fortunate position of choosing which one I want.

We have bought 2 x Z61p's and 3 x T60's

Z61P's specs: 9450A24

Intel® Core 2 Duo T7200 2.00GHz
15.4"
1920x1200
256MB ATI Mobility FireGL V5200
1 GB
100 GB
DVD burner
BT and wireless

T60's specs: 2623A11
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7200 2.00GHz
15.0"
1400x1050
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
1 GB
100 GB
DVD burner
BT and wireless.

I realise that the Z61P is widescreen and it GFX card had more ram but I've been reading about some problems with the other Z61 models, but no many about the T60's

Any help would be appreciated.

Pat.

The Z61p weighs more and is thus harder to lug around. Its high res screen gives you 57% more working area than the T60's screen, so it's easier to view multiple documents or web browsers simultaneously, but consequently makes things look uncomfortably small.

You are the only one who can decide whether the Z61p is too heavy, or whether the T60 screen gives you enough viewable area, etc. etc. -- we can't decide for you. I can tell you that after getting used to the 1920x1200 screen on my Dell inspiron 6000 and that on my Dell desktop's 24" LCD monitor, the 1400x1050 screen on my T43 feels a little limited. On the other hand, when I need to carry a laptop with me, whether it's just crossing the street to go to the library or attending a five-day conference, both are way too heavy and I use my sub-3lb X60s instead. So, if you travel frequently, both the Z61p and the T60 are probably not ideal.

Thanks for the feedback.

I guess I'll have to make my mind up when I see both of them and have a chance to pick each one up etc etc.

I have a widescreen Z60m and I don't think it's that heavy at all. It goes with me to class every day of the week, and I don't find it to be even a remote burden. I am a 19 yo college student; if that makes any difference.

It can make all the difference in the world.

Ten years ago, I carried a TP755Ce (then assorted 760s and 600s), bigger AC adapter, extra HDDs, floppies, manuals and assorted other bits and pieces everywhere I went using a backpack and never thought a thing about it.

I have the neck and shoulder problems to prove it.

Now I have grandchildren your age and use a wheeled bag.

I guess i'll need to review my bag contents when I get my new backpack and laptop.

I currently have a T43 with the 10? cell battery
usb floppy
ac adapter
2.5 external drive
a few cables, pens, small usb mp3 player
thats it.,

I dont imagine I'll carry anymore than this when the new stuff arrives. I'll let you know which way I decide to go and why.

Its just frustrating waiting over 8 weeks for the Z61p's to arrive.

Including the bag, that's probably a total of 9 to 10 lbs. When I was 19, I wouldn't have minded carrying a 9-lb bag everyday, but I definitely wouldn't want to do that today!
