What is Lenovo's 'lemon' policy?

#1 Post by zhenya » Sun Jan 21, 2007 7:30 pm

I have a z60t that is about 9 months old with the extended on-site warranty. I've had and continue to have a number of problems with this machine, and I'm wondering if Lenovo has some sort of lemon policy that might get this machine replaced for me.

So far, the hard disk has been replaced, the motherboard has been replaced once (trying to fix a problem where the machine won't stay turned off) my aux. battery has been replaced once, (and needs it again) the screen has a couple of fully dead pixels and about 8 or 10 blotches/faded pixels. Now I'm abroad in SE Asia and the main battery suddenly came up with a battery fault and left me here on an extended job with only the crippled aux battery and about 30 min of battery life. Additionally, the machine still will not stay off when in hibernate mode (which has been my preferred mode of shut down over many makes of laptops for as long as it has been available). If it is in hibernate mode, unless I take the batteries out, it will start up again and drain the batteries. Even if I open it back up and press the power button, it WON'T stay off - I have to pull the batteries.

When I get back to the US I will surely be contacting Lenovo, I'm just to the point where I don't want this particular machine repaired anymore, I need a new one that will be more reliable for my job. What is their policy here? Is replacement a possibility? TIA.

I just came up with a battery fault as well. Maybe it was something Lenovo accidentally sent out? The battery thing came out of my message center. However, Power Manager says the battery is in excellent condition.

Lenovo likes repairing

It took more than 5 motherboard replacements before they replaced my unit (Z60M) with a new unit (Z61M)... Now the onsite service techs have screwed up my Z61M, broke internal parts, can't figure out how to repair it, and now I am dealing with getting it replaced again... I should have a good story up on TheInquirer.net soon...

they dont have a "lemon policy" according to one of the people i have been talking to, however after you have your case escalated you are eligible to put in a claim for a replacement, and getting that information from the "team leader" was not easy.

They tend to blow a lot of smoke up your [censored] during the process... I am fighting with them right now over it... There is a lemon policy as well... IF you are in California you have additional rights...
