Newbie CPU usage problem
Newbie CPU usage problem
First of all, thanks for all the great Thinkpad info. Has been very helpful. My problem is that over half the time now when I turn on my R40, it runs VERY slowly and if I check the CPU usage it's running at 100% consistently. The only way I can get it to stop is to reboot the system. I've run several virus and spy scans with no apparent bug. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jason

Well, if you're running Windoze try opening the task manager and checking which processes are using up all your CPU for starters.

And anything else I can stuff in.
Any one else here old enough to have used an IBM 029 Keypunch? :}

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
If you are running XP, keep an eye out for "helpsvc". It seems to pop up on my Gateway from time to time (even though I thought I disabled it with services.msc).

Yeah no kidding. Svchost has been ruining a lot of peoples lives lately by using a LOT of system resources. . Turn off autoupdates and it calms down. Not sure why as neither does MS as I have called them as well. Said they will call me back !!! LOL yeah no you wont. Anyway. Hope you get it resolved.lbump wrote:If it's svchost.exe, trying turning off Windows Update.
