Thinkpad Drivers. Safe to delete?

#1 Post by Unregistered » Tue Jan 23, 2007 7:29 pm

On my Z60m, there are folders that are named as I386, DRIVERS, VALUEADD, SUPPORT, etc. These are the laptop drivers that came in with the Z60m. There is also a hidden partition.

I have read that the hidden partition contains the drivers that the Z60m will load when I need to restore to factory settings. How can I check this hidden partition? The reason for this is that I want to remove the I386, DRIVERS, VALUEADD, etc. folders so that I can free some space.

You could get use Windows Disk Manager (diskmgmt.msc) and see if there's a partition called IBM_SERVICE.

You can delete all content on your C drive, but please bare in mind the folder I386 contains the Windows XP installation setup files, sometimes Windows prompt you to install Windows XP CD (when you install a printer, camera, etc)

Also, if you would like to install Windows from scratch, you could use this folder and create a bootable CD with Nero and you should be able to install Windows XP

Is it really true that the computer will run the files in the hidden partition when I need to restore my Thinkpad to factory setting? I'm just making sure.
