Z61p and firewire - FIXED

#1 Post by MrPats » Sun Jan 28, 2007 7:44 am

Has anyone used their firewire port on their Z61p's yet?

I've got mine hooked up to a sony minidv cam and no discovery is taking place. even after a "scan for hardware change" in device manager.

My wifes PC (also xp, and using the same basic MS firewire driver and Texas firewire chipset) picks up the camera straight away.

I've even tried connecting my old firewire PCMCIA card to the Z61 and connected the camera to that with no luck.

Any ideas?

UPDATE:

The issue was the cable.

I was using a 6-4 pin firewire cable with a 6-4 adapter, making it a 4-4 pin cable.

However, I've now got a genuine sony 4-4 pin firewire cable and its all ok.

A classic case of one of the first rules of hardware troubleshooting:

Checking all physical connections.

have you checked in your lappy bios to see if its enabled the firewire support?

I've checked the BIOS, but there isn't a specific mention to the firewire card.

I've uninstalled the port and the OS picks it up and reinstalls it on the next install.

I might make some backup DVD's tonight of my current config. push it back to factory and try it from there.
