Can't install wireless drivers - Solved!

#1 Post by JeffNB » Thu Feb 01, 2007 2:50 pm

I just installed Windows XP on a Thinkpad R51 (1829-NU1), used the Software Update 3 application to download drivers but it did not offer a wireless driver to me. I've d/l'ed and tried all the drivers listed on Lenovo's site for this model with no luck.

Any idea why all of a sudden the drivers no longer work? I haven't opened it up to find out specifically what wireless adapter is installed but I've installed the drivers on this model before, using the software installer, without issue. This is strange.

Thanks,

Jeff

I modified a newer Lenovo driver to correct the issue. Problem solved.

Hi,

I had a similar problem. I did a factory restore of a R52 which has a image that is about 2 years old. When I ran software installer and system update 3, it showed only a few updates available and the wireless driver was not one of them. My driver was from 02/2005 so I knew it was old. Tried so many things and still nothing for all the old drivers I had.

I ended up manually installing all of them into the C:\ Drivers folder and now everything appears normal. I think they did something on the downloads site so it will not recognize most really old drivers anymore. This is my theory and I will know for sure when the next round of updates are available if they show up in system update3 or software installer.

What a headache including wasted time on the phone will Lenovo!!
