C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session folders???
I have 1.5 gig of space being taken up by C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session folders going back to July of 2006 when I bought this R51.
Do I need these, some of them, any of them?
Thanks,

I inventoried my hard drive and found countless examples of the same IBM/Lenovo drivers in lots of places. An extreme example -- all with the same exact file size and checksum...in this case a graphic, but lots of other examples abound:
FILE NAME ......................... LOCATION
DFSC02OD.PNG......................... C:\DRIVERS\W2K\PRDCTR\PRDCTR\
DFSC02OD.PNG......................... C:\DRIVERS\79UZ03WW\PRDCTR
DFSC02OD.PNG......................... C:\IBMTOOLS\apps\PRDCTR\
DFSC02.PNG......................... C:\DRIVERS\W2K\PRDCTR\PRDCTR\

DFSC02OD.PNG......................... C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session\7KUY03BW\PRDCTR\
DFSC02OD.PNG......................... C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage\PrdCtr\Image\
So the question -- do these all need to exist? If not, how do I know which to remove?

Re: C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session folders???
I've been doing some research on this and have found a tool called "System Update Cleaner" available through http://groups.google.com/group/system-u ... aner?pli=1 It seems that the author is oriental so the links to his pages don't help me much. I guess I'll back up my boot partition with Acronis (I've removed R&R) and run his tool, see what happens. My 'Session' folder is well over 1GB.
Wish me luck......

Re: C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session folders???
Ok, I didn't use the tool, I found this page on lenovo blogs and it seems to have regained a bunch of space for me: http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/messa ... uid=135306 Note; You lose the 'previous updates' and 'deferred installs' options but I had none deferred and I don't need to know my install history..misfit wrote:I've been doing some research on this and have found a tool called "System Update Cleaner" available through http://groups.google.com/group/system-u ... aner?pli=1 It seems that the author is oriental so the links to his pages don't help me much. FWIW the term "PC" here refers to a "Personal Computer" and nothing else..

I think that it's rather unreasonable to expect a poster from another continent to be up-to-date with the ever-changing rules of American lingo of political correctness.admin wrote:Admin edit: off topic remarks deleted..

If you had an issue with misfit's post you should've simply PM'd him and asked him to correct the bit that you found offensive - since I'm certain that it wasn't meant to be taken as such - instead of giving him a lecture in this thread.
We don't need PC police around here.
If you have an issue with what I just wrote, feel free to take it up with Bill Morrow.

"N P" ....
BTW you could have reported it to Mr. Morrow or taken it up with me one on one via PM. Instead you want to flex your muscles and desire final word. Additionally, if you re-read my thread the message was written to acknowledge he resides on another continent. I think my post was educational.

System Update Cleaner is also available here:
http://fetag.net/index.php?q=node/19
AFAIK, basically it just erases the cache/archive of past updates, nothing particular special, but nonetheless useful.
Cheers.
