My LCD Screen is BROKEN

#1 Post by rxw1510 » Fri Feb 23, 2007 12:33 pm

How do you describe what happened with my LCD screen? it's like the display is shattered like a glass window. it happens while I'm using it; no drops, no knocks, no pressure of any kind, nothing and just went like that.
It's still under warranty but IBM won't take it for service and blame it on human error?_???? How can they presume it's because of human error when my thinkpad is in top condition and shows no wears of any kind? I've managed to make the support center's supervisor willing to escalate the case though. Now I need to send the support guy an email with pictures of the flawed unit. Hopefully IBM/Lenovo get this thing right and fix my Z61t.

anyone has similar experience?
Here's some photos on Picasa

Unless you have the Accident Insurance, I don't see how they will cover that. I did that once to a ThinkPad 600E I had, by closing an overstuffed briefcase with the 600E inside. Too much pressure on the cover or the LCD itself will break the glass.

Did someone with itchy finger tamper with your thinkpad while you are away??? :?

It's not from an accident. the thinkpad was opened and was sitting firmly on the floor. then the screen saver fired and I moved my mouse to get the display back and that's when the picture cracks like that.

Do you always get the same "pattern" whenever this happens on your screen? Just to be clear, does your laptop display look normal and becomes like this only after the screensaver comes up, or is it like this all the time?
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

Well, it sounds like a case of sudden change in temperature to me.
Ever seen a very hot glass being put suddenly in a cold temperature or vice versa?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

it's like that ALL the time. as for sudden change in temperature it's probably not the case. however when the unit broke it was in an air-conditioned server room and been there for about 3 hours.
My unit is relatively new; since I bought is last November it's been serviced 3 times for: faulty power/on button, palm rest creaking, and faulty battery latch. My experience has been anything but a testimony to Thinkpad's reliability. anyways, the case has been escalated; IBM support has been excellent in assisting me, hopefully they'll get this fixed as well.
