Z60t will only connect to D link if encription is turned off

#1 Post by pschoggens » Mon Mar 05, 2007 8:28 pm

Hi,

I did some searching but was unable to find a simular post and maybe one of you brilliant individuals will be so kind as to shed light on my issue.

Tax time is near and I fear to sent my tax info over an open ( encription turned off ) router. I decided to start with the 64 bit encription first to see how much it slowed down my connection.

Unfortunately only the desktop running ME was able to connect using the 64 bit encription, the thinkpad was not. I had hoped to see a box open requesting I enter a password or key to use the D link 524, but no such luck.

I did attempt to modify WLAN settings in the MINI PCI EXPRESS Adaptor and even enter the key used in the D Link encription setup, but still ...no connection.

I tried to let the "help fix this" wizard do it and .....nope, no workie.

I feel it is something simple that is being over looked and I need a big brother or sister to guide me as if I were 3 y.o.

Anyone mind helping out an amature with his wireless internet settings to make them secure?

Looking forward to your response!

If you are using "Access Connections" you should look in wireless connection properties and let it know that the network is now encrypted, click something like next and enter the key. I think it wouldn't ask you for the key without being configured to use encryption, windows manager probably would ... not sure.

If you are using Access Connections try the following. Go to Locations > Manage Profiles > Edit > Wireless Settings > 4. Wireless security type: Choose the method you wish to use. Next click on the Properties... button and choose the encryption method and key.
