Backlight question

#1 Post by dperron » Thu May 20, 2004 9:17 pm

Hi,

i've learned recently that my backlight was failing (pink screen... see the old forum.. ;) )

But i'd like to know what part is it that they replace when you have it fixed? The inverter? the LCD screen?

Thanks again!

THe LCD screen.

The inverter is just a cable and has nothing to do with the actual backlight.

erm... The LCD cable is a cable.....

The inverter is a PCB which converts the electrical input from the mains/battery to power the screen.

Sorry about that. n3il's response is correct, however IBM has its inverter as part of the inverter/LCD cable assembly so often when you replace the part you are actually replacing both.

I just sent my A30p in to EZServe for repair of same problem: pink screen. The techinician that called to confirm the problem was quite funny, calling it the Easter Bunny screen or something like that. We had this amusing litltle exchange about holidays, etc., etc. Anyway, he seemed quite familiar with the problem, said it was just a matter of replacing a cable (which judging from the discussion here actually includes an inverter), and sent a box straightaway. Several mothshs ago I called about the same problem and didn't really get anywhere over the phone with the EZServe technician. I didn't press it at the time, but after reading various discussions here about this same problem, and with the warranty nearing its end, I decided to push to have this fixed. No pushing was required, though.

On a similar note, I just got an X30 back in one day from having the keyboard bezel replaced. It had cracked on the edge over the PC card slot.

Best regards,
Bill Armstrong
