The T2500 is a CoreDuo Machine. It wasn't until the Core2Duo processors came out that the 64bit instruction set was added to the mobile processors. Now, there is no reason why a T2500 couldn't handle Windows Vista 32bit.

And believe me, Core Duo processor can handle Vista Business easily. It is important to watch out how big is your RAM. The bigger the better.

You mean the Vista Business 32 bit or 64 bit? How to look for the bits on the package of the MS product? How big the ram should it be enough? 2Gb?

Core Duo is 32-bit only, so you need the 32-bit Vista Business.

2 GB is good for Vista -- you can run with less, but Vista will use the extra memory for SuperFetch, which can make a significant positive impact on your disk access performance.

By the way, is there any link for step-by-step upgrading to Vista Business from Win XP pro together with upgrading the R & R hidden drive also? Thanks.

May I ask another question? Can Z61P T2500 run Vista Ultimate 32bit smoothly?

Vista 32bit of course. 64 bit cabability only available in Merom processors (Core 2 Duo).

You need at least 1 GB to run Business smoothly. Ideally is 2 GB.

Of course it can. The important issue is how much RAM you will get.

I believe there is not much difference between Business and Ultimate system-wise. They have same kernel, same shell, same system architecture.
The difference between them lies at user level features. At system level Ultimate have support for bit locker encryption which Business lacks.
Business does not have all codecs installed in Media Player 11, especially MPEG2 for DVD movies. Home Premium and Ultimate have most codecs available. This may add some memory space for caching.
Ultimate have extra options such as Dream Scene, where you can put motion picture as wallpaper. This should add more memory also -but naturally this is categorized as user feature and can be disabled.

So RAM usage differences should not be great, depending on how we will use the OS with all of its features. And since newer system use core architecture, multitasking - in user and system level- managed efficiently so in most cases you will not notice any slowdown.

For Office, multimedia and general usage, i think 2 GB is still more than enough in Business. I have system with 1 GB RAM and Business still runs fast. The key is you should break 512 MB barrier. And since many systems logically prefer addition of 512 or 1 GB, 1 GB RAM is still a logical destination from 512 system upgrade.

If you have ultimate and activate all of its glitches, 2 GB is still a reasonable level. But this is my guess only since i never use Ultimate. I only have experience with Business and Home Premium.
