Backup system before reloading factory install

#1 Post by winslow » Mon Mar 12, 2007 12:51 am

In the process of getting recovery CD's for all my computers. I have them for my destop and my T23 now I need them for my G41. I made a set when I received the computer but as usual they are lost. Read on here somewhere that if I did a reload from the hidden partition I could them burn a set. Has anyone had success with this (being able to burn a second set after a reload). The problem is I would like to return the system to its current setup without losing settings, files, ect. I have a wireless setup so all three of my computers are on a home network. Hopefully I can back up my G41 on the network and reinstall later. What is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks in advance for any info.

PS.- I ask this here because I have found that thinkpad owners are ahead of the curve in these sort of things.

Hi Winslow,
Have you ever considered Ghosting the images on to an external harddrive? I use Norton 2003. The program makes an exact image of your computer which if done correctly will never fail you. Acronis is another program which others have used. There is a lot of info at the Radified Forum. Mike

I tried Ghosting with Acronis when I replaced the HDD on my T23, it didn't clone properly. I ended up reloadind with recovery disks.

Hi,
I use Norton 2003 and have cloned many times and used the image to write over a infected HD. Mike.
