recognizing R5x's having Firewire ~ IEEE1394

#1 Post by Patsoe » Fri Sep 24, 2004 10:01 am

Hi, I was hoping someone would know a rule of thumb to say which R5x models have and which don't have an onboard firewire chip?

I've found through the IBM site that some are listed with and some without, but I haven't recognized any pattern in it. Do I have to click properties for every model, or can I perhaps see it from the model number?

Thanks.

No Discernable Pattern to Identify ThinkPads with 1394 Ports

#2 Post by Peter_S » Tue Oct 12, 2004 6:25 pm

Patsoe,

Like you, I'm seeking a ThinkPad with a FireWire port. After a detailed review, I have identified most, if not all, of the ThinkPads which have a Fire Wire port. Unfortunately, the most recently introduced models do NOT include a 1394 port.

I do have a PC Card FireWire Cardbus, but I'm hopeful that the native FireWire port, and any device hanging off it, will be visible to the system BIOS. As you may know, PC Cards and any devices connected to them, are not recognized until the Windows operating system has fully booted up.

p.s. If you want, I will edit this message and specify which ThinkPads have FireWire ports.

No thanks Peter, don't bother, that would be a lot of work!

I've been going through the speclists 'manually'. I was hoping there would have been some kind of marker in the model names... (like MSI who put an F on all their Firewire equipped boards...)

Thanks for your reply!
