#1 Post by rbi » Sun Mar 18, 2007 3:32 am

Is there anyone who knows if there is any IBM/Lenovo wording sticker on original 1GB RAM 40Y7738 for Z61,T60 and etc? Is that RAM manufactured by Samsung?

Thanks.

There is - But I refuse to use Samsung's ram - because of the quality. When I buy a machine i buy Crucial Ram right off the bat.

My z60m, straight from Lenovo, used Elpida RAM. There is no Lenovo sticker on it.

I upgraded using Kingston memory and it works great, but historically I've always used Crucial memory as that just works.

redsoxidahovandal,
i agree that crucial memory is great. i've used them exclusively on my machines during my studies in the states...
can you let us know why do don't like samsung ram?

as you can see from my location, i am biased. and in samsung's defense, they are very good at making memory. in my experience, their memory is highly compatible and sell at a premium here(new and used).

samsung is not known for their overclocking abilities, they don't have a premium line like other brands. they are chip makers make solid products.

just my 2 cents...

fyi, my z61m has a 1gig stick of samsung ram along with the ibm 512mb right now.

As if Crucial don't sometimes use Samsung chips.

Samsung, if not one of the best, is a big player in the flash/RAM business. If I'm not mistaken, I think they are the ones to ship the first hybrid drives using their flash technology.

To answer the OPs question, IBM used Elpida, Samsung, Infineon, Micron and Nanya sticks on their Z61t/m/p systems. Most of them have the IBM FRU labels but not all the time.

I found this part 40Y8403 (not 40Y7738) here:

The default in my country for Lenovo using hynix chipset. I replace it with Kingston RAM and everything works fine.
