R52 ThinkPad/ThinkPad DockII Video Card Setup Problems

#1 Post by schwarze » Sun Mar 18, 2007 9:10 am

Look up the definition of novice in the dictionary and you will find my picture. That said, I have an R52 ThinkPad, a ThinkPad Dock II with an ATI FireMV 2400 PCI 128M video card in the dock PCI slot. Card supports 4 monitors. Was told by a guy at work just plug it all in, install the card drivers, set up the configuration of the monitors in display properties and your good to go. Not so. Display properties only shows 2 monitors. None of the four outputs of the card have a signal. I want to ultimately be able to use 5 monitors, the four supported by the the ATI card and the internal display on the R-52. The card is not there in device manager. If I try to load the drivers I get a message that says there is no supported hardware. Hot swapped the R52 off and then on the dock. (My guess is I’m not supposed to do this.) I got a found new hardware wizard for the card and was able to load the drivers and software for the card. On the restart after loading I get a message “Expansion ROM not initialized-PCI Controller on Motherboard Bus:OC, Device:05, Function00”. I have literally looked through every line in the BIOS and cannot find anything to change that would relate to this error. I do get a signal through the card now as I can change the boot monitor in BIOS and get a signal to a periphial monitor. Looked in ThinkPad Configuration at PCI Device Setup. The help file in there talks about this is where you set set up IRQ resources for a PCI card in a dock. All of the options are grayed out. I can boot the R52 normally if I pull it off the dock or remove the card from the dock. Got any ideas where I can get help with this? Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Got it. Actually able to run six monitors without any conflicts. Life is good.
