R40 - Problematic hinges?

#1 Post by jn1520 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:35 pm

I just received a used Thinkpad R40. Overall, it's in great shape except I'm noticing something strange.

When I open the laptop display it feels nice and tight. However, it has a little "give" when bringing it back forward slightly (almost as if it's meant to be flexible). Is this normal for this model?

Thanks for your help!

R series thinkpads are made from plastic except the newest model R60.

My R52 does flex a lot.

Thanks for the feedback! If this is the norm, then I'm fine with it. Overall, it feels and works great.

Yes, this is the norm. It's one of the differences between my R40 and my T60 from work. If working on a bus for example, the R40 screen shakes a bit, the T60 much, much less. It has a more rigid feel in that respect. But it's still a Thinkpad. :)
