Dead thinkpad R52, any help?

#1 Post by mobilehunter » Sun Mar 25, 2007 8:52 pm

My R52 just dead two days ago.
Before it dead , my daughter spilled out some water to the center of the keyboard. Tried to clean it.
The laptop still running for about 5 minutes, then suddenly went off.

When i tried to switch on, i heard i small buzz sound, but the laptop still off. Now no reaction at all.

Anyone has experience to track down the problem?
Or it simply dead body, which cannot be revived anymore?

Thanks for any help.

The motherboard is FRIED due to your carelessness...

You SHOULD switch that tp off immediately after the spill NOT wait till it shut down on it\'s own...!!

You SHOULD wait for a few days for the tp to dry up on it\'s own or open up the tp to dry all the components before turning it on again!!

Do a search in this forum and you will find lots of similar topics and solutions for this problem... But yours is 100% motherboard fried!!!

Sorry, need to go to IBM/Lenovo to get a motherboard replacement...

EDIT: uppercase letters contained in the message is just for catching OP attention and nothing else... I forgot to mention this and misunderstanding has taken place...

Please forgive the harshness of the previous post by NS....I am sure that it wasn't intended as it sounds.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

It does appear that the systemboard might be friend. I would search the forum for liquid spills. Some have had luck with removing the system board and carefully cleaning the sections that appear to have been affected by the spill. Normally, residue on the systemboard can be the give away as to where the damage is.

Here is a link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your R52, to use as a guide.

If you are uncomfortable with disassembly, then I would recommend a repair shop.

Hi it's ok for the response :).
Thanks for the link. I'll try my luck then :)
Btw, which one is the closest thinkpad, for me to use my R52's parts, like memory, processor and dvdrom drive?
