CPU Clocking Speed Problems on A20m

#1 Post by thelynkisbroken » Wed Mar 28, 2007 11:51 pm

Hi all!

I am new to this forum and have a good knowledge of PC repair (I hope so I do it for a living) however my knowledge to notebooks is limited.

I just obtained a A20m from a friend and it was in repair shape. I've gotten it running it's what i'm posting with now. However, I have upgraded the CPU from a 500MHZ to a 750MHZ and am only reading 600MHZ on boot. Even after the lenovo.com BIOs update aswell as the speedstep update. Am I missing something?

Also, I seem to be running okay temps.... but before I buy....Does anyone know about running an A21 or A22 CPU fan in an A20m? Or more importantly is it possible and will it fit?

Thanks,
Lynk

It sounds to me that your motherboard does not support speedstep. My A20m is not a speedstep so the CPU only runs at its' bus speed (no multiplier), this means that the 850mz CPU that I have installed shows a speed of 700mz. I believe this is as fast as a non-speedstep will operate. As far as fans go, I am using a fan out of an A21 in my A20. They are supposed to cool better but I really didn't see an improvement. As a disclaimer these are only my results, others may dis-agree.
