R51 + Kingston Value Ram Problem

#1 Post by doemeat » Sun Apr 01, 2007 10:30 am

Hi

I recently bought a 1gig stick of Kingston pc2700 200pin sodimm value ram to upgrade my R51 from 512mb.

I can't get the system to post with the Value Ram, I've tried both slots with and without the original 512mb.

I am wandering if this ram is DOA or it is a compatibility issue.
Has anyone out there had success using Kingston Value ram in an R51?

Thanks

What do you see when you power up the machine? Do you get a blue screen? Perhaps you can run Memtest86?

You should definitely run MemTest86 or other memory test without booting the operating sytem after replacing/adding RAM. I also have R51 and didn't have any problem with Transcend memory module.

Can't get the system to POST - how will he run MemTest (or anything)?

That's why I asked whether the OP could get to the blue screen. If s/he could get that far, then it actually can POST.

This RAM should be compatible with the R51. It's most likely DOA.

Hi

Thank you for your replys.

The computer won't post with the value ram, just a black screen no beeps.

It post and boots fine with the original 512mb.

Has anybody used Kingston Value ram in an R51.

Thanks again.

The RAM you got is probably bad. I have an R51 that currently has 2x1 GB, both Kingston Value RAM. It used to have 2x512 before this, also KVR.

My main machine, the R52, also has 2x1GB of KVR as well.

Hi

Just to update, I rma'd the ram and the replacement worked fine.

The Kingston warrenty dept was very easy to deal with, covered shipping both ways and cross shipped the replacement.

New to the board. Hope you don't mind me piggybacking on your thread doemeat.

I'm having a strange issue with the Kingston KTM-TP9828/1G installed in a R51 (1829). I can get it to post and boot into safe mode no problem, but every time I try to boot into Windows normally the machine crashes.

The furthest the machine has booted was passed the log-in screen and the machine stalled.

Right now i'm running Memtest86+ 1.70 (Pure DOS) and will post results when completed.

In the meantime any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok I just realized that Memtest86+ crashed after 22:01 minutes... Here is some information of the memory from Memtest:

Pass: 37%
Test: 49%

L1: 64k
L2: 1024k
Memory: 1535MB
Chipset: Intel i855PM
FSB: 99MHz
RAM: 165MHz (DDR330)
CAS: 2.5-3-3-

There was no error detected prior to it stalling.
