A22e memory upgrade problem

#1 Post by jecoled » Wed Sep 29, 2004 12:33 am

Can someone offer any help on A22e memory upgrade? I recently installed (2) 256MB Smart Modular SODIMMS and my system immediately became unstable with frequent windows shutdowns. BIOS sees 512MB RAM. Installing a single 256MB module works fine, but when both 256s are installed, things go haywire. On the other hand, a 256 and the old 128 work fine together. The 256 modules are a tad less wide than my Crucial 128MB modules, but otherwise seem to seat normally in the RAM slots. Don't know if the module config is wrong but part number (33L3069) matches correct IBM part number. I'm running Win XP Home with Service Pack 2.

Thanks

Is this a Celeron or PIII A22E? The Celeron based units have a known problem with taking the memory over 256MB, whereas the PIII based units can go to 512MB with no problem.

You have the correct memory for the system.

My system is a PIII. Thanks for the input, but I returned the subject modules. I guess I'll bite the bullet and spend the money on Crucial RAM. As I unfortunately learned first-hand, buying cheap and/or used RAM just ain't worth the aggravation.

Thanks all,

Hiya jecoled,

Do you have a "SAVAGE" video chipset on your A22e :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

A22e Memory Upgrade Problem

Karn:

I believe my A22e does have a Savage Video Chipset. As I previously posted, I'm trying RAM from a different manufacturer, so before I install these modules, is there anything I should be aware of? I am not familiar with any memory issues and the Savage Chipset.

Thanks for the response.

have you checked your memory for errors? I recently did the exact same upgrade as you (same exact ram except with an A22m) and was getting memory errors (Windows ended up being corrupted). I checked both sticks together using microsoft's program and a got several errors on the first pass. Then I checked each stick individually and got no errors. :?:
I put both sticks back in and ran the program again all night, no errors this time and everything has been fine since. I have no clue why it works now. Maybe the ram isn't seated right in your system, try switching the dimm slots, seemed to work for me Good luck!
