[R40] 11A/B/G: too much time to connect & packets errors

#1 Post by felixvanpelt » Wed Apr 04, 2007 5:04 pm

Hello everyone, I'm a new user of this helpful forum and this is my first post here.

I have an annoying problem with my R40 (2681-epg) with a IBM 11A/B/G miniPCI wifi card ,windows xp pro SP2 , access connections 4.21 and the latest wifi drivers.

this is the problem: when r40 startup, after logon, the wifi card takes too many minutes to connect to wifi router or access point. I have try to change both card and router settings but nothing.... for a quicker connection I have to find the network by pressing Fn+F5 and clicking repeatedly the "find" button; but this solution dont works always...

I need an help

any suggestion..

thanks a lot

Bye

Felix

On my R40 I used windows' WZC (Wireless Zero Config) and it was fine, no issues with both the Cisco 11b card and the Intel 2200bg that I was using.

It would pick up the signal right as soon as I opened the lid, even if I moved to a different location.

hi, thanks for suggestion... I tried to use ZWC, but the situation don't change... :( however, I would prefer to use access connections (I have also update to 4.23) because I use wifi at home, at work and in other locations...
I try, I try , I try.... but nothing...
Sad... and frustration...

Salut

Felix

Go into Location Switching in Access Connections and uncheck all the profiles except one or two most frequently used connections. That works for me. If I am at a location not checked off, I just connect manually. I have no unreasonable delays with this setup.

Thanks a lot JDH...

I have a doubt: do you means normal "location switching" menu (in manage menu), or the "automatic location swicthing" (in configure menu) ? ...(in my italian access connections they are respectively "profili ubicazione" and "commutazione automatica di ubicazione" )

I tryed to change the "automatic location switchin" menu and list (before it was disabilited)... but no result...

p.s. I have a T60 (with the bad intel 3945A/B/G) that works perfectly in the same locations with the same initial settings of R40...

I dont understand.... :(

Sad sadly... :(

Bye

Felix

I meant your second choice "Automatic Location Switching" in the Configure menu.

But you say it didn't work, so I am not sure what to suggest, as you have tried the things I have tried.

Thanks for responding. ... JDH

Salut mes amis....

...I try, I try, I try... but noting...

...however, I have a new worrying information...

I monitored the network driver statistics and I have this result:

after about an hour of connection:

packets sent: 37492

packets received: 21314

send errors: 5

receive errors: 22167

after that, I lost connection.....

22167 errors!!!!! bad driver??? or hardware problem???

any clarifying suggestion????

thaks a lot

Salut

Have you updated the firmware on your router?

Thanks for reply Sean,

Yes, to remove any doubt, I updated my home router last week with the most recent firmware (released on 26-03-2007); my home router is a linksys...

however, my T60 doesn't have any problem, error or delay with connection to router... It works fine with an intel 3945 A/B/G : it connect immediately and without packets errors...

i have no more ideas...

Au revoir

Felix
