Slow Downloads with Z61t and Vista

#1 Post by billp117 » Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:57 am

I just finished testing my Z61t and my X30 download speeds and find the X30 kicks #%#@. See the reports...

X30 using 802.11b Intel internal card:

The Z61t is very slow...which I attribute to Vista. I will have to install my XP drive and re-test the Z61t...here is the report using Vista Business:

My Access Connection report says I have 60% signal...I am just feet away from my wireless router...the X30 reports full signal but I do not use Access Connection...rather use Windows XP:

Any advice is welcome...Thanks

You can consider re-installing the network card drivers. My tests with Vista RC1 showed the same speed as XP (both as fast as the ISP allows). ... JDH

I think the problem is Access Connection. When you go into the advanced settings...you can adjust for "Maximum Performance". I was able to get one download test to really increase the speed, but just one time:

However, the setting reverts back to Low Power. I may possibly remove Access Connection and just use Windows? How do you get Access Connection to stay in Max Perferomance?

I see from the list there are others suffering from the same problem.

I think I might have solved the problem...here is what I did:

Removed Access Connection

Turned on Windows Wireless Network

Still worked slow...clicked a few boxes and found how to fix the connection

After repairing the connection via Vista I have speeds six to ten times better

I can now watch a Netflix movie and browse the web.

I will report back if my problems return.

Can you share what boxes you clicked. I dont have access connections on Vista. Wireless connection is at 60% even when I am next to the router.

The connection is still 60% even with Vista doing the connection. The boxes came up automatically asking to repair the connection. That improved the download speed...not the connection quality. AC never asked to repair nor do I find a way to force it to repair or run in a high performance mode.

I think that this issue needs to be addressed with Microsoft customer service...which I will probably do this week.

The comment about Vista RC1 is true. I had ZERO problems with RC1 and used it for a long time. The final version works OK on my desktops...but never try to do an upgrade. Always do a clean install with Vista over XP.

Sorry for not being able to recall the boxes. It is funny that Netflix is what forced me to seek out a solution...I like movies and the download speeds of Vista and the Z61t were horrible.

Just a follow-up...I recently reloaded Vista and it solved my download speeds even with Access Connection working.
