Ok to run A21P without battery? (AC Power)

#1 Post by kadf88 » Sun Oct 03, 2004 9:44 pm

Is it ok to run my A21P without the battery in it when i have it plugged into the wall?
i'm wondering this because i don't want to kill my battery when most of the time i have my laptop as my desktop replacement so i usually have it plugged in and with my port replicator on. Will this be ok?
because i know that even if i have it plugged in with the battery in then its still draining a little bit of the battery and eventually will kill the amount of charge the battery holds.

Been doing it for 4 years, almost 24/7, with no ill effects.

I have port replicators at home and office. No problems. (I even update BIOS with the A21p in a replicator even though the update always warns against it. I also have to insert the battery into the A21P, of course.)

This is an, um, hotly-debated issue. The real enemy is heat. The battery can get quite warm inside the A21p. That causes premature deterioration. The other side of the debate is that you should always keep the battery inside as a UPS and consider the shortened battery life the price of this added protection.

I went through two batteries on my 770 before IBM told me to take the battery out, once charged, when the 770 is on AC. I've done that religiously with the A21p and my original battery still holds a substantial charge.
