Z61 4-1 digital media reader support SDHC?

#1 Post by denton » Wed Apr 25, 2007 10:27 pm

Anyone know if it does? Lenovo's documentation isn't specific enough (so I suspect it doesn't). I'm aware that the X60 does not.

I have used it with a 4Gb SD Mini (via adaptor) in my Z61t and it works fine. Format/Read/Write. Hope this helps.

I don't know whether the media reader supports SDHC, but I just want to point out that 4 GB doesn't necessarily mean SDHC.

Z61 SDHC support : YES !

#4 Post by jflores » Wed May 02, 2007 6:02 pm

Hi, I just wanted to add an important information here : YES, the z61 does support SDHC drives, I have just tested a 8GB SDHC card in it.

Only thing : ReadyBoost only handles up to 4gb (which leaves 4gb free, which is not bad after all).

I have another question though : does the Z61 support 2GB Ram SO-DIMMS for a total of 4GB onboard RAM ?

Thanks,
Joscelyn

Yes - it does - but you only get 3GB usable - so woul suggest a 2GB and a 1GB module (you still get the memory interleaving for the 1st 2GB in this configuration).

My z61p (9450-GBU) card reader does NOT read SDHC cards, at least not with the current driver. I wish it would... right now I have to use my camera to read my 8GB SDHC card which eats away at my camera's battery life.

jflores: can you tell me what driver revision you have on your system? I've found an article about how to get this reader to read 4GB cards but haven't found anything about getting it to read SD cards > 4GB.

Driver Revision on z61m for SDHC cards

#7 Post by jflores » Wed May 16, 2007 8:57 pm

Hi, sure, here is the information on my system, hope it helps !

Thinkpad = z61m, type=9450-H9G
using Vista 32 bit

SD Card slot has two drivers in fact :
the "logical" one built into Vista is ver. 6.0.6000.16386
the "physical" one I had to look around on lenovo's website, since it was not recognized by Vista (and windows Update did not help in this case, neither did Lenovo's System Update 3, both failed to find a driver).

The driver to look after is "Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller" and it is ver. 2.0.0.4

Thanks for the reply jflores. I couldn't find the "logical" driver version you described for XP, but I did find the physical driver. I actually already had the same version installed from Windows Update but I hadn't thought to try and find a newer driver for the "logical" device. Apparently for XP there is a Hotfix available that makes SDHC work. Its basically a new logical driver. Funny thing is that neither Lenovo System Update nor MS Windows Update prompted me to get this hotfix. If anyone is having issues getting SDHC cards to work they should try this hotfix.

Anyone willing to try this XP Hotfix for SDHC? I don't have a SDHC card to test at the moment.

That is actually the same hotfix I used (and the same place I downloaded it from) and afterward I was able to read my 8GB SDHC card. A little more research shows that MS has an even newer version of the hotfix but I've not found it and it isn't available from that site yet (although they're looking for it).

Thanks techjosh! Finally a strong indication that my X60s can do 8GB SDHC in XP (assuming SD readers in thinkpads are similar). Now I just have to find a JP version of the Hotfix.
