Boot from 2nd Hard Drive

Just got a new HD ; clean install of xp pro and have d/l drivers for the diff componets. However, the CD/DVD show up on task bar as "hardware component" and when I put old HD in w/ ULTRABAY 2nd HD adapter, it does also.

1) Is there a driver/component that I need to install for the ultrabay?

2) When I have original HD in ultrabay adapter, is there anyway to boot from there??? I would like to have diff OS on few diff HD, and swap them in and out..

There should be no need to download additional drivers for ultrabay HD.

You can select the boot disk by pressing F12 after powering up your ThinkPad or you can change the boot sequence in the BIOS setup by pressing F1 after powering up.

F12 does not let you choose the Second Hard drive. You would have to F1 and change which hard drive boots first under Hard Drive.

You could always keep the same MAIN hard drive and just change the boot.ini. That's how I've been doing it for years. I have it list the options for 3 seconds which gives me time to hit an arrow key. As soon as you hit a key it stays there until you hit enter.

I can tell you exactly what text to put in your boot.ini file. I spent a lot of time working this out so I'm happy to save someone else the headache.

Be sure to backup the boot.ini before modding it.
