SD card reader doesn't work

#1 Post by pnowak » Tue May 01, 2007 12:47 pm

Hi,
I have problem with SD card reader on my Thinkpad Z60m. Reader worked without problems but 2 months ago it started report that card was not rejected.

I can insert SD card, use it and invoke removing of card. OS asks me to remove a card. I remove card. I insert the same (or another) card and system is not able to detect new inserted card. When I check SD card reader in HW manager I got report: "The card was not removed." From this moment I'm not able to use reader. Only way to solve this problem is to completely remove reader in HW manager, restart OS and detect new hardware. Then the reader is ok and I can insert the card and use it. However, only first time. After removing the card the same problem appears. Does anybody know whats the problem ???

Win XP prof. SP2, daily MS Update. Automatic update of drivers from IBM web.

So I bought small USB SD card reader. But the same problem appeared with this SD card reader plugged into USB - I can use it, but when I invoke rejecting of reader and plug it out, the system isn't able to detect new plugin of reader.

I think it's a sw problem, but where ??? :(

Welcome to the Forum.

AFIK when you tell windows to remove hardware, because you want to remove the card, it actually disables the whole drive. This drive doesn't appear again untill after a new start. It might be worth testing, (without any important files on the card), by just removing the card without telling windows.

But this is not the problem. Whether I remove card with or without telling windows, every time the windows doesn't recognize card removal and it's not possible to use reader more (windows treats reader as full - as with the card inserted and doesn't recognize new inserted card)... :(
